Dr Lucy Morgan Edwards worked in Kandahar during the Taliban regime and remained in Afghanistan for the initial five years of the US led intervention. She worked with UN agencies, NGO’s, as a freelance journalist and latterly was Political Advisor to the EU Ambassador. Her book, the ‘Afghan Solution; the inside story of Abdul Haq, the CIA and how western hubris lost Afghanistan’ charts her experience of the post-9/11 intervention and investigates an indigenous Peace Plan for toppling the Taliban ignored by the West. Her PhD focused on how ‘Western support to Afghan warlords between 2001-2014’ ignored local concepts of legitimacy, thus undermining peace and stability. She has published and lectured on these issues at Universities and Think Tanks.
